NDDC to Commission Ekeremor Shore Protection Project
In its determination to complete all on-going projects, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) said its Ekeremor Shore Protection project in Bayelsa State and the 44 chalet built for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Otuoke, in Ogbia Local Government Area have almost been completed and ready for commissioning.
The Managing Director of the commission, Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia, who was in Ekeremor and Otuoke to assess the performance of its contractors disclosed this to newsmen. Dan-Abia also inspected the 1.8-kilometre shore-protection project at Ekeremor, in Ekeremor Local Government Area.
Briefing the visitors on the shore-protection project, the Resident Engineer, Mr. Amos Akinwonmi, said that materials needed for the completion of the project were already on ground and as such he did not envisage any further delays. He explained that the 1.8-kilometre bank protection also included the construction of 6-concrete landing aprons and 500-metre shore protection walls using concrete piles.
The NDDC Chief Executive Officer stressed the importance of protecting the town from erosion and noted that the NDDC Governing Board placed the Ekeremor shore protection and land reclamation on its priority list. “The community needs to be protected and it is reassuring that the contractor has promised to complete the project in the next four weeks,” he said.
