NCS to engage youths in ethical hacking competition at 2016 conference

In its quest to further strengthen capacity building of the Nigerian youths, the Nigeria computer Society (NCS) has announced plans to engage youths in ethical hacking competition during the upcoming 26th annual national conference billed for Abuja, Nigeria.

President, NCS, Professor Adesola Aderounmu disclosed that this part of its strategic framework for dealing with the issues of security in the information superhighway across the public and private sectors in Nigeria.

Aderounmu who disclosed this at a press conference in Lagos said that the 26th annual National Conference of the NCS would focus on strategic initiatives on national security.

In a multifaceted approach to the development of local tools for tackling cyber security, he said that the NCS had entered into partnership with global brands and other institutions like the IBM and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for capacity building in Nigeria.

He stated specifically that NCS and IBM have a programme where youths would be engaged in developing practical solutions to combating cyber security and any participant that scores above 80 percent would be awarded automatic job globally, while other participants will be certificated for the programme.

He stressed that the NCS is determined to encourage continuous interface between the industry and the academic institutions, adding that his priority is to develop local capacities such that Nigeria does not have to outsource the securities of its critical national assets in the digital age where the Internet of Things and Internet of Everything are prevalent.

According to him, “a new and most exciting feature and highlight at this year’s conference is the Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Platform (YIEP) which has been endorsed by the global IFIP International Young ICT Group.”

He stated that the NCS is committed to shaping the future of IT in Nigeria and has introduced YIEP to harness the ideas, energies, freshness and strengths of the youth as a dynamic, innovative and future oriented approach to enhance security, job creation, health, education and overall prosperity.

NCS is the umbrella body of all IT professionals and organisations in Nigeria, with more than 17,000 members and major interest groups (ISPON, ITAN, ISPAN, NiWIIT, ITSSP, AIT, and NITPCS). Also inclusive of one hundred thousand student body, Nigerian Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS)
