Tom Okpe, Abuja

The Nigeria Christian Pilgrimage Commission has rated the newly constructed Port/Harcourt airport terminal as the cleanest in the world.

The Executive Secretary of the commission, Rev. Uja Tor Uja made this assertion on Tuesday in the Garden City in a meeting with the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) while inspecting possible air terminals in preparation for the airlifting of Easter pilgrims from Nigeria to the Holy Land which will commence in June, 2019 with the formal flag off in Abuja.

.
Uja who was conducted round the facilities of the terminal by the Airport Manager and Regional General Manager South South/ South East, Akinbinu Felix said:

“It is part of our colonial heritage that we must destroy that people think it is abroad that things happen.

I like what I have seen, I think Port Harcourt airport is one of the cleanest in the world; I have seen many airports in the world . This is one of the cleanest and I want us to maintain this record”.

He urged the airport officials to maintain a minimum standard and not to compromise quality pointing that airport is a gateway to the world for countries.

“Usually when things fail, it is we the officers on ground that makes them fail but you as professionals, if you insist that this is the minimum standard, everybody have to follow that standard especially knowing that this is the gateway to the world.

From here we go to the world and from here, we got to the world and also receive the world”, he said.

He further stated that no country in the world has organized pilgrimage as Nigeria, noting that Ghana and two other countries have written to the commission to understudy the processes and procedures of operation of successful pilgrimage adding that;

“with the construction of Port Harcourt International terminal is an announcement that Nigeria has come of age and there is need to do everything possible to keep and maintain the standard it has attained.

In his earlier remarks, Akinbinu assured the commission that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigerian (FAAN) will ensure that public address system and security will be put in place before the commencement of the airlift of the pilgrims adding;

“for security, safety and comfort, I am sure this airport is being prepared for certification. Our safety measure has been heightened and the same with security. Whatever we need to do more between now and June will be done accordingly”, he assured.
