NCC deduces reason for flagging off ‘Year of Telecom Consumer’

The Nigerian Communications Commission said it choose to unveil the ‘Year of Telecom Consumer’ campaign today because March 15 every year is marked globally as World Consumer Rights Day.
Prof. Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of NCC said the Commission’s decision to declare 2017 ‘Year of Telecom Consumer’ is because the consumer is the oxygen that sustains the telecom industry, requesting all stakeholders in the telecom sector to partner with it to make the consumer experience better.
“NCC has a mandate to ensure its key stakeholders are protected in openness and transparency. “Our focus on consumer this year suggests a re-commitment to consumer empowerment and satisfaction,” Danbatta said.
He noted that the Commission is focuses on improving QoS and consumer experience to ensure 2442 DND Code is activated & 622 lines is utilized, adding that NCC will heighten information & education of consumers on 2442, 622 & other environmental issues in telecom industry.
NCC has flagged off the ‘Year of Telecom Consumer’ campaign at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, with President Muhammadu Buhari being represented by Hon. Adebayo Shittu, Minister for Communications.
Participating at the event also are delegations from MDAs, CSOs, NGOs, consumers and members of the National Assembly.
President of Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki is represented by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, while the Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara is represented by Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi.
All Members of Board of NCC, Management staff, telecom operators among many others are present here.
