The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State on Sunday said one of the hoodlums that disrupted and hijacked election materials in Ilaje Local Government Area has been killed while two were arrested by men of the Nigerian Navy.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Segun Agbaje, who disclosed this to journalists also said the hoodlums collected personal properties of the ad hoc staff and jumped into the sea, but, they were chased by the naval officers.
“The Commanding Officer of the Nigeria Navy called me about 8: 20 pm, last night and told me that following repeated complaints from our electoral officer in Ilaje, that election materials were hijacked, they moved into the seas and were able to make some arrests”, Agbaje said.
He added that eight guns, five ballot boxes, six mobile phones, belonging to some of the commission’s ad hoc staff were later recovered by the naval officers.
