Navy confiscates 828 bags of contraband rice, other items

Officers of the Forward Operating Base of the Nigerian Navy Ibaka in Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom state have seized 828 bags of contraband rice worth millions of naira while the suspected smugglers escaped as they sighted a naval gunboat.

Other items confiscated include seize navy operatives two horsepower outboard engines, a pumping machine and a wooden boat of 55ft long and 6.8ft deep used in ferrying the contraband rice said to be from Cameroon.

The Commanding Officer, FOB, Captain Yusuf Idris, said in Ibaka on Tuesday that the bags of rice were transported into the country from the Republic of Cameroon.

The Customs Assistant Comptroller, Eastern Marine Command, Garko, thanked the Nigerian Navy for its unwavering support in fighting smuggling within the Nigerian maritime territory.
