Naval Officer Stabs Woman To Death over leadership tussle in Lagos

For allegedly stabbing a middle age woman to death in the Egan area of Ojo in Lagos, a Naval rating have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command.

It was gathered that the deceased whose identity was given as Taibat Badru was stabbed on the back with a knife by the suspect whose identity is yet to be ascertained on Friday night.

The deceased had bled profusely and died at Alimosho General Hospital Igando, where she was rushed to for medical attention.

Information had it that the tussle for the Baaleship title of the riverine community between the families of the deceased and that of the suspect may have been the reason for the murder.

A source who spoke in anonymity to our correspondent revealed that the father of the suspect, simply known as Mr. Moshood had lost the bid for the title to a family member of the deceased.

“The development had pitched both families against themselves. Both family members always fight themselves. Even there was a time the house of Moshood was set ablaze by the people of the village over this matter.

” It was in the heat of the beef that the suspected killer officer, who had just been deployed from Port Harcourt to Lagos had arrived the village in company of a friend.

” But this one that led to the death of the woman started between the naval man and the son of the deceased named Quadri. May be because he heard that they always insult his father, that is why he came to avenge the insult. He came to the village on Friday night with one of his friend with dagger in his pocket.

” All of a sudden, we heard noise between him and Quadri because they used to insult and fight his father. Quadri now ran into their house to inform his mother about the scuffle and as the mother rushed out to jack the suspect, he brought out his dagger and stabbed her at the back and blood began to rush out heavily.

” When efforts to stop the blood failed, they then rushed her to the General Hospital at Igando where she eventually died, ” the source disclosed.

It was exclusively gathered that the suspect was arrested by police operatives attached to Ilemba Hausa Division on Saturday morning and was immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti on the order of the Commissioner of Police Edgal Imohimi following complaint by an aide to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Press Secretary to the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Musbau Rasak also confirmed the deceased to be his sister.

Efforts to get the comment of the police public relations officer CSP. Chike Oti on the incident proved abortive as he was to reply a text message to him, even as he declined calls put across to him.

But a senior police officer who preferred anonymity confirmed the arrest, adding that the case has been transferred to the SCID for discreet investigation.
