The proposed nationwide protest by the Coalition for Revolution (CORE) has not gone as scripted, as President Muhammadu Buhari has deployed security agents from the military and police to round up protesters who are currently involved in the peaceful demonstration across major cities in Nigeria.

A viral video circulating through news media shows some of the protesters at Unity Fountain, Abuja, being subjected to different shades of brutality as the President’s troops have briskly moved to stop the protesters in their tracks.

Meanwhile, the nationwide protest appears to be in full flow in Lagos as CORE took to it’s Twitter handle to post videos of the protesters marching through the streets of Ikeja, with throngs of Nigerians joining in and singing songs of solidarity, calling on the government to wake up to its primary responsibilities to the citizens.

Daily Times had earlier reported the planned peaceful demonstration by CORE, which is being convened to commemorate a similar protest which held precisely one year ago, still as a response to perceived failure in leadership which has left many Nigerians in our perennial paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty.

With the security agents charged to carry out their designated duties by all means, there is increased concern that some Nigerians at the heart of this peaceful demonstration could feel the brunt of President Muhammadu Buhari’s zero tolerance for public defiance.
