NASS Orders Re-gazetting of Tax Laws Amid Alteration Allegations

The leadership of the National Assembly has directed the Clerk, Kamoru Ogunlana, to immediately re-gazette the recently passed tax reform laws following serious allegations that the published documents were tampered with.

The directive comes after Abdussamad Dasuki, a member of the House of Representatives, raised an alarm regarding significant differences between the bills passed by the legislature and the gazetted copies currently in circulation.

According to TheCable, the lawmaker’s revelation sparked public outrage, with many Nigerians calling for an immediate suspension of the law’s implementation, which is scheduled to commence in January.

To address these concerns and restore public confidence, the Senate and House of Representatives leadership ordered the re-gazetting to ensure the official document strictly aligns with what was debated and approved by the lawmakers.

The tax reform bills, championed by the Tinubu administration, have been a subject of intense debate, aimed at streamlining Nigeria’s fiscal policy.

However, the alleged alteration has cast a shadow over the process, raising questions about the integrity of the final documentation.

The National Assembly has yet to provide specific details on which sections were altered, but the move to re-gazette serves as an admission that the initial publication may be flawed.
