The immediate past Minister of Information and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State said he has concluded plans to challenge Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura’s victory at the Election Petitions Tribunal.
According to Maku, his decision was based on the irregularities that characterised the election exercise in the state even as he pointed accusing finger on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies.
Similarly, Sen. Suleiman Adokwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Nasarawa South senatorial zone, on Wednesday made known his intention his resolve to go to the tribunal in a press statement made available to newsmen in Lafia.
He also accused INEC and security agents of masterminding his defeat through what he termed ‘grand conspiracy’ to ensure that he lost the election to his kinsman of the All Progressives Congress, Arc. Husseini Egyebola.
Another aggrieved person who has decided to seek redress at the tribunal is the member representing Lafia/Obi federal constituency at the National Assembly, Dr. Joseph Kigbu.
Kigbu lost in last week’s re-run election conducted at the Ciroma electoral ward by 4000 votes after leading his main opponent, Abubakar Sarki Dahiru,by 19, 000 votes after the April 28th National Assembly elections.
However, the state chairman of the APC, Philip Tatari Shekwo, said the party is not intimidated by threats from the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Mr. Labaran Maku, and other PDP candidates of heading to the election petitions tribunal in a bid to reclaim so called governorship and legislative mandates after losing at the polls.
Shekwo said going to tribunal is futile since the electorate have spoken clearly on the change they have so desired and urged all those who lost elections to join hands in building a greater Nigeria.
