Nasarawa Killings: Save us from genocide, ethnic Cleansing – Mdzough U Tiv

The Nasarawa State interim President of Mdzough U Tiv nation, Mr Thomas, Gar has on Thursday said that over 230 Tiv farmers have been murdered by Fulani herders at different coordinated attacks, describing it as genocide and ethnic cleansing of Tiv people in the southern senatorial district of the state.
Gaar, who stated this in a press briefing in Lafia the state capital, said, “Over 230 Tiv farmers have been murdered by Fulani herders during deferent co-ordinated attacks between January to date, and properties worth billions of naira were destroyed leaving over 500,000 Tiv farmers displaced.
The Nasarawa state Tiv leader lamented that, “what can we say, where do we go? Who will save us from this co-ordinated genocide and ethnic cleansing; our eyes are misting and swollen with heavy tears. Nasarawa State government please hear us and step up.
Gar, who bore high expectations that the coming of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo to Nasarawa State would bring permanent solutions to the mayhem, expressed dismay as the visit failed to yield any positive impact on the Tiv people as the Killings continued unabated.
The State president general of MUT who pledge allegiance to Nasarawa State as its only home land said, “we have no other places than Nasarawa State; we are here and prepared to salvage and partner with other ethnic groups as we have always done to propel the development of our dear state.
He therefore, cried of disenfranchisement of Tiv people in the state, and appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to organise a special voters’ registration for the Tiv people at the IDP camps in the state to enable them exercise their civic right in the forthcoming general election.
Accordingly, he appealed to the state government, federal and international communities to as matter of urgency come to their rescue.
