NAF carries out environmental clean-up in Enugu

The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) personnel have undertaken the complete clean-up of Abakpa Market and Nike Road drainage in Abakpa community near Enugu on Sunday.
The NAF personnel, who cleaned and carted away dirt for over three hours, also hired a truck to properly evacuate the dirt to the state’s
dumpsite.
The Commander, NAF 553 Base Services Group, Enugu, Air Commodore Paul Masiyer, told newsmen that the environmental sanitation was part of NAF corporate social responsibility meant to build civil-military relationship.
Masiyer said that the NAF had remained in the fore-front of adding value and well-being to its host communities and neighbouring
communities in its area of operations nationwide.
“The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, said it is mandatory that each NAF base or formation add value and
contribute positively to it host and neighbouring communities where they operate.
“It is also in line with one of the key drivers of NAF. The fourth point in the key drivers of NAF says promote and inculcate the core values of integrity, excellence and service delivery,’’ he said.
The commander said that the fourth quarter civic programme; the base decided to do an sanitation outreach this time rather than a medical outreach.
Masiyer thanked the Chief of the Air Staff for empowering the base in meeting up with its civic responsibility and contributing to the well-being of Nigerians.
The Chairman, Abakpa Market Areas Association, Chief Henry Ugwu, lauded the NAF personnel for choosing the market as centre point of their clean-up exercise.
“We were so surprise this morning to see hundreds of Nigeria Air Force officers and men cleaning up and de-silting roads and drainage
in the entire market area.
“It is unprecedented in the history of the market for the military to come to serve the people directly,’’ Ugwu said. He revealed that the traders clean-up the market once every last Friday in the month.
The chairman assured that the market and Abakpa would keep up the good work and ensure that our trading environment would continue to be clean always.
A resident of Abakpa, Mr John Agu, thanked the Nigeria Air Force for helping to control infections especially malaria through the clean-up exercise.
