N5m bounty: Police launch manhunt for Benin Man accused in friend’s death

BENIN CITY — The Edo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a Benin-based store secretary, Aifuwa Osamuyi, following a N5 million bounty placed on him by the family of his late friend, Nosa Orobosa, over alleged complicity in his death on April 30, 2021.

Although the police are yet to issue an official statement, a senior officer confirmed that operatives have been directed to locate and apprehend Osamuyi, whose sudden disappearance has deepened suspicions.

“We are aware of the situation,” the officer disclosed. “Though there’s no public position yet, efforts are ongoing to track down the said Osamuyi for questioning.”

Osamuyi, who worked at Jones Electrical Stores at the time, had reconnected with Orobosa, a childhood friend , after years of separation.

Sources say Orobosa spent a night at Osamuyi’s residence and followed him to work the next day.

However, shortly after, unidentified individuals reportedly trailed Orobosa to the residence, though they failed to find him.

Disturbed by the development and Orobosa’s increasingly erratic behaviour, Osamuyi is said to have severed ties with him.

Days later, on April 30, 2021, Orobosa was shot dead at a hideout in what has remained a mysterious killing.

While police never officially linked Osamuyi to the incident, Orobosa’s family has consistently accused him of betrayal, alleging that his closeness led to their son’s death.

Nearly four years after the killing, the family has reportedly placed a N5 million bounty on Osamuyi’s head, demanding justice and reigniting tension around the unresolved case.

Osamuyi, along with his wife and children, it was gathered has since gone underground.

All efforts to reach Osamuyi for his reaction to the matter were unsuccessful.

The present situation has triggered anxiety in parts of Benin City, with the community members urging security agencies to ensure due process is followed and prevent any resort to jungle justice.
