N36m scam: We’ll prosecute ‘snake swallowing claim official’, says JAMB
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday in Abuja vowed to prosecute the mysterious ‘snake swallowing claim’ by an official of the board, Philomena Chiesie.
Chiesie, who as a Sales Clerk in Makurdi, Benue State, was accused of diverting N36million being sales proceeds from the board’s scratch cards that were sold last year.
The Head Media Relations and Spokesman of the Board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, who was reacting to questions on the matter on Channels Television Programme ’’Sunrise Daily’’, said already Chiesie is undergoing series of investigation by relevant security agencies and that as soon as investigation is concluded, she and her co-travelers will be charged to court
He further disclosed that the agency remained unwavering in its participation in the ongoing anti-corruption war being waged by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari
He said, “What is going on in Maikudi presently is an attestation of the anti corruption drive embarked upon by our Chief executive. If it were previously, it would have been swept under the carpet but it won’t be so this time around, as all those involved will be prosecuted and the money recovered.
“These are things the Registrar is trying to unravel in order to put the board on a sound footing. There are procedures in the civil service so the whole thing is still under investigation’’.
The Daily Times recall that Chiesie, a sales clerk, at the Makurdi branch office of JAMB had told visiting JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede that she could not account for the money before the abolition of scratch cards, adding that her housemaid connived with another staff, Joan Alsen, through a ‘spiritual snake’ to steal the said N36million from the vault.
JAMB, under the watch of Oloyede, has been widely credited with transparent handling of its finances as the board last year remitted N8billion into the coffers of the federal government.
