...PDP presidential aspirant seeks generation shift to revamp nation’s economy
…Says Nigeria needs new set of rulers with modern solutions to problems
…No, Buhari’ll return as there’s no vacancy in Aso Rock – Inuwa Abdulkadir
One of the leading contenders for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, has said that it is expedient for the PDP to change the present narratives in governance of the country by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government through the 2019 general election.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Times on Wednesday, Sen. Baba Ahmed said the party will change the change agenda of the Buhari administration by injecting fresh and younger blood into governance.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari has done his possible best in seeking solutions to the nation’s multidimensional problems though his efforts are not enough.
But the Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja, said there is the need to leave governance for much younger persons with vigour, knowledge and modern solutions.
Expressing his view on the need for generation shift in 2019, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed said Nigerian problems are modern problems that need modern solutions which can only be provided by a modernly trend younger leader.
He said, “Generation shift is the answer to have new and fresh set of leaders who have modern solutions to modern problems and can deploy modern tools and methods without hindrance of age, limited capacity, and without controversies of corruption and misgovernance”.
Expatiating on the need to change the change in 2019, Baba Ahmed said “it is a matter of survival for Nigeria to have a total change of governance in 2019 because of existential threat of sustained insecurity, failing economy, disunity, and endemic corruption”.
The presidential aspirant also said that it is high time that Nigerians should stop playing politics with the salient issue of saving the country from the brinks of collapse by seeking alternative to the Buhari administration come 2019.
He said the rebranded PDP is a better option of revamping the country and he as an aspirant has what it takes to give Nigeria a new direction by renewing hopes and aspirations of the citizenry as well as regaining grounds already lost by the APC administration.
Reeling out what he intends to do differently if elected as president next year, Baba Ahmed said: “I’ll account for every square meter of Nigerian territory, and minimise crime to lowest level ever.
“I’ll multiply workers pay and promote living wage in Nigeria. I’ll stabilise the Naira for at least a period of 10 years. I’ll lower interest rates to 7 to 12 % max within 4 years while sustaining profitability of banks”.
In addition, Sen. Baba Ahmed promised to “turn the economy into a stage for all forms of legitimate businesses and industries to thrive, reform procurement system to put public good first, reinvent the Nigerian education system, increase access, and improve quality to international standards.”
But in his response, the APC Vice Chairman (North), Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, said.
