Mrs. Adaeze Ifeyinwa Ossai

On October 11, 2024, in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, Mrs. Adaeze Ifeyinwa Ossai, wife of the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, visited three secondary schools: Community Secondary School Ezimo Uno, Community High School Ezimo Agu, and Community Secondary School Imilike Uno.

These visits aimed to inspire and empower students through education, particularly senior students, by providing them with important literary works and messages of personal development.

During her visits, Mrs. Ossai distributed copies of The Girl with the Louding Voice and And So I Roar by Abi Daré, as well as Children of the Quicksands by Efua Traoré. These books, rich with empowering narratives, were carefully chosen to inspire both boys and girls to believe in the power of their voices and abilities.

In her addresses to the students, Mrs. Ossai emphasized the importance of treating others with kindness and respect, regardless of gender or differences. She highlighted that their futures rest on the strength of their minds rather than their gender. She urged the students to focus on their studies and to embrace the transformative power of books. Through literature, she said, they could experience new perspectives and countless lives, gaining valuable insights that could shape their paths forward.

Mrs. Ossai also encouraged the students to engage with ongoing global conversations on critical issues like climate change, artificial intelligence, and environmental sustainability. She emphasized that these mega trends are already influencing career paths and that students should stay informed and proactive in their education to make meaningful contributions to the future.

One of her key messages to the senior students was the importance of mentorship. Mrs. Ossai urged them to serve as reading mentors for junior students, guiding them in their academic journey and fostering a culture of learning and support within their schools. This mentorship, she noted, could have a positive ripple effect, bringing lasting benefits to their communities.

In closing, Mrs. Ossai expressed her deep gratitude to the teachers and school management for their dedication to the students and their community. She encouraged them not to lose heart in their work, acknowledging the vital role they play in shaping the next generation. The warmth with which she was received at each school was met with appreciation, as Mrs. Ossai commended the teachers for their hospitality and their continuous efforts in fostering a strong educational environment.

Mrs. Ossai’s visit served as a reminder of the power of education and literature in shaping young minds and futures, as well as the importance of nurturing leadership and compassion among the youth.
