Moving yellow buses into streets pose danger – Ifako/ Ijaiye residents

Worried by the apparent danger relocating the Iju Motor Park, and moving the yellow buses into the streets would pose, residents and landlords in Ifako /Ijaiye Local Government on Friday called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, not to press ahead with the plan.

In a statement signed by Ayo Musibau, President, Concerned Citizens of Ifako/ Ijaiye Local Government Area, said the plan by the state government to take over the Iju Garage and push the Yellow buses into Ward C which is mainly residential areas, portends a lot of danger.

Chief Musibau, who is also a landlord and a leading politician, said, they would resist the move by the local government. “I don’t think the Governor is aware of this impending loom in Iju Garage and in our ward, as we will resist the Local Government’s action. Streets are not motor parks; residential areas are not motor parks either.

“There are so many funny characters in motor parks that supposed not to come closer to residential and living areas. Our youths and other members of the ward will not allow it to happen.”

Also, he said that several letters and messages have been sent to the Governor in respect of this, “and I don’t think he has got knowledge of any. Iju Garage is an ancient park located in a strategic area and has no alternative size in the area to push the buses to. The buses numbering over one million will definitely become nuisance in residential areas talk less of the activities of the characters that work close to them.

“When the government gave a contract to a company to build modern structures at the Garage, the people of Ifako/Ijaiye, especially Ward C, the largest ward in the Local Government were happy and full of praises to the state Government and the Local Government, but after creating building structures in the Garage that almost nearing completion, the same Local Government that is complaining of no money wants, to demolish the structures that is nearing completion.

“The irony of this is that the contractor of the modern structure in the garage has not been paid off and have not been settled. The Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government, moved in tractors to demolish the same structure which they demanded for.

“We therefore appeal to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to with draw all actions already planned at the garage by the Local Government to avoid breach of peace in the area.”
