Moribund industries in Abia attracts attention of Gov. Ikpeazu

In furtherance of his quest to show difference in governance, Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, last week, inaugurated a six-member State Committee on moribund industries with the aim of revitalising ailing government and private industries in the state.
The committee which is headed by a renowned industrialist and former Nigeria Ambassador to Argentina, Chief Empire Kanu, is also to interface with the private companies to match-make them with those with experienced industrialist/businessmen to revive them.
While inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Umuahia, Ikpeazu charged the committee to reach out even beyond the shores of the state in particular and the country in general to ensure that such ailing companies are brought back to life.
“It doesn’t matter who owns the industries. Government has no interest in the companies other than that Abia Youths will work in them and by so doing, unemployment and crime will be reduced.
“All that I’m interested in is that we can begin to tackle unemployment and have the key items needed in the state”, he said, stating that the continued existence and sustenance of moribund industries in the state rests on the shoulders of the committee, while noting that some of the industries have gone down due to unavailability of raw materials and obsolete technology among other reasons.
He expressed his confidence that the team can reach out to those who will bear the resuscitation of the moribund industries.
Responding on behalf of others, chairman of the committee, Chief Empire Kanu thanked the Governor for choosing them, promising that they will use their various professional experience to achieve results.
