Monkey Pox: Rep charges state govt to pay attention to health sector

The Federal House of Representative on Monday called on states government to urgently draw attention to the health sector following the outbreak of the viral contagious Monkey pox disease.
Hon. Bamidele Baderinwa, the Federal Lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency in Ondo state made the call while speaking with journalists in Akure.
Hon. Baderiwa who explained that giving close attention to the health sector will help forestall the spread of the disease, noted that the National Assembly was already putting in place legislative laws that will help safeguard the health sector.
He noted that the health of the people of the country is very crucial stressing that there is need to rise up and combat the dreaded contagious disease which had been reported in over four states.
The lawmaker disclosed that the state governments even at local levels should urgently put machinery in place in order to guide the border towns to avoid the spread of the Monkey Pox disease.
“We are calling on state governments to give more attention to the health sector in the interest of the people especially the masses who may not have the wherewithal to take care of themselves.
“It is pertinent for states at this crucial stage of the discovery and outbreak of the monkey pox to rise up to the situation so as to reduce the magnitude of the effects on the citizenry.
“The state government should quarantine officers at the border posts to ensure that all humans and produce movement are checked at the point of entry to the state” he added.
Hon. Baderinwa further maintained that the National Assembly would continue to suppress the health sector in its bid to develop the institution.
He added that the federal government should also ensure that the territorial integrity of the Nation is safeguarded.
“All government agencies at the border posts must be put on alert to forestall any influx of alien diseases” he added.
According to him, the Ministry of health should continually put some measures in place to combat immediate outbreak of diseases rather than waiting till it also spread and becomes more dreaded.
The Federal lawmaker later commended the Nigeria Medical Professionals in its effort of arising to all health challenges while citing the fight against Ebola and Lassa Fever in the country.
