Monarchs endorse ex-NUJ deputy president for senatorial election

Ahead of the 2019 general election, traditional rulers of Ebonyi south senatorial zone, Thursday, endorsed an ex-Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Abia Onyike for Ebonyi south senatorial election.
Vice Chairman, Ebonyi Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Romanus Iyioku stated this in his Ugwulangu, Ohaozara country home while briefing journalists on the position of the monarchs on the 2019 Ebonyi south district senatorial race.
Iyioku, who alleged that the current senator representing the zone has not done anything for the zone since eight years he has been occupying the position, added that after critical analysis of situation of things in the zone, the traditional rulers resolved to throw their weight behind Chief Abia Onyike, was Commissioner for Information and Special Adviser on Media on to former Governor Martin Elechi.
“Ebonyi south where the governor comes from are civilized, we willpick our man when the time comes but you don’t stop politicians from politicking”.
“Abia Onyike has been very strong in this state. In fact, as a traditional ruler if am told to pick, I will pick Abia Onyike. If he goes there, there will be great change. The man who has been there did not do anything for us”.
“So, we hope that if Abia Onyike goes there, he will remember us. I, Iyioku as individual will support him. The traditional rulers in Ebonyi south have told him to go for the senate; they have already given him their approval. It is the Governor who may have the last say”, he said.
