Monarch backs call for state police

Traditional ruler of Ifite Ogwarri kingdom in Ayamelu council of Anambra State, Nigeria, HRH Dr. A. I Ofuebe, has backed the call for state police, though expressed concerns that state Governors will abuse it.

He argued that since the insecurity currently plaguing Nigeria appeared to be overwhelming the present security structure in the country, one of the viable options left was the creation of state police.

Dr. Ofuebe who bared his mind in a chat with Journalists weekend, however noted that in absence of creation of state police, the existing security structure of Nigeria must be rejigged so as to effectively tackle the current security challenges.

He equally backed restructuring that would return Nigeria to regional government for more effectiveness in governance.

“State policing will help the nation because there will be more security in various states,” he said.
