Mokwa General Hospital in decayed condition, say residents

Residents of Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State have raised the alarm over the deplorable and dilapidated state that have led to the abandonment of the General Hospital, Mokwa.

Investigations have revealed that the once-bubbling hospital has turned to animal rearing site, with all manner of reptiles such as snakes and other deadly and poisonous animals present.

According to a resident of the town, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity on the state of the hospital, appealed to state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, to come to the rescue.

He explained that the hospital has suffered deliberate neglect despite producing prominent individuals in the past and present administration.

A female patient in the hospital also called on representative of the ministry of health to visit the hospital, adding that doctors, nurses and other staff of the hospital have deserted the place, thereby, leaving the patients in the hands of God.

It was further gathered that the hospital was established during the military administration of David Mark, but has suffered total neglect by subsequent administrations in the state.

They further explained that some accident Victims and patients have to travel to Federal Medical Center Bida or Jebba Hospital for treatment due to the sorry state of General Hospital Mokwa.

The residents, however, appealed to Niger State Government and well-meaning Nigerians to rescue General Hospital Mokwa from its current state for effective and efficient service delivery.

However, the state Commissioner for Health and hospital management, Dr. Mohammed Makusidi, has assured that the state government has not abandoned the hospital at Mokwa or any other one in the state.
