Mohammed Idris: Tinubu’s administration has prioritised south-east with key projects

The federal government says it is executing signature projects across Ebonyi and the wider south-east under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, spoke on Friday during a courtesy visit to Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi, at the executive chamber of the new government house in Abakaliki.

Idris led a delegation of federal information and security agencies, including the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Voice of Nigeria (VON), and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

He said the administration was deepening reforms in infrastructure, economic empowerment, and social investment, adding that ongoing projects in the south-east were part of efforts to ensure inclusivity.

The minister commended Nwifuru for supporting public awareness on Tinubu’s policy reforms, including subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification, noting that while the measures were tough, they had started producing fiscal savings, job creation, and funding for projects nationwide.

“Over 400,000 Nigerians from all parts of the country have benefitted from new education support schemes, with more than N86 billion spent on tuition and accommodation for students from poor homes.

“The federal government has also released over N200 billion to revive small and medium-scale enterprises,” Malagi said.

He added that Tinubu’s administration would continue to prioritise the south-east through infrastructure projects and inclusive appointments that have placed young people and south-easterners in key positions.

Responding, Nwifuru pledged Ebonyi’s readiness to partner with the federal government to consolidate the gains of the reforms.

“Our duty is to ensure that policies translate to tangible benefits for our people, especially the youths. We will continue to strengthen systems and build on the foundations already laid,” he said.

The visit, attended by top state officials, security chiefs, and community leaders, was followed by a town hall meeting at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, where federal and state stakeholders engaged the public on collaboration in roads, healthcare, education, and enterprise development.
