Mohammad Makes Case for School Sports

President of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), Mallam Ibrahim Mohammad has expressed delight at the quality of athletes discovered by the Federation at the grassroots through its programmes and called on more corporate bodies to come forward and support their programmes through sponsorship.

Speaking exclusively to Extra Time shortly after the press conference heralding the Etisalat U-15 School Cup, he affirmed that the future of sports development in Nigeria lies in the youths and assured that NSSF will continue to unearth more talent despite the limited resources at their disposal.

“The future of sports development in Nigeria lies in school sports because that is where young talented athletes are discovered at their real ages. However, NSSF is working relentlessly towards discovering these hidden talent that will eventually become future Olympians.

“I’m excited that telecommunication giants, Etisalat, finally came to our rescue for our U-15 football competitions for all schools in the country.

“Initially we had sponsors for our U-13 and U-17 competitions, but with the coming in of Etisalat, that gap has finally been covered.

“Today, our U-15 boys will now be kept busy with the schedule,” he enthused.

Meanwhile, corroborating the NSSF boss, the Secretary General of the body, Mrs Olabisi Joseph appealed for government’s support, especially in the funding of their programmes under the Federation’s purview, saying that is the only way sports development will receive a massive boost from the grassroots.
