MMA: McGregor responds to alleged threats to his life

The Irishman was reportedly involved in a pub fight last weekend with a man said to be linked to a renowned Irish gang. Conor McGregor has responded to alleged threats made against his life, saying “Come and get me” after the UFC champion was reportedly involved in a pub brawl last weekend.

The Irishman appeared in court on Thursday morning to face a speeding charge, for which he was fined £350, and was subsequently asked by reporters to comment on claims he has received death threats from an Irish gang after allegedly assaulting a man linked to the organisation.

But speaking out of his car window outside Blanchardstown District Court in Dublin, the 29-year-old simply said: “Come and get me”.

McGregor ‘may never fight again’ to throw his UFC return into doubt

Irish Police have confirmed they are aware of reports linking McGregor to a fight at an Irish pub on Sunday but have not received any complaints regarding the alleged altercation.

McGregor initially fuelled speculation that he had been involved in the reported fight by posting a video of himself online with his hood up covering his face and the caption “The celebrity”.

The fighter’s father, Tony McGregor, dismissed such rumours as “absolute nonsense” though.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, he said: “That’s all nonsense, that is. Absolute nonsense. It’s an absolute nonsense story.

“It’s grown legs and it’s getting that ridiculous – it’s become funny. We have nothing to fear here whatsoever. There’s no one after us for anything.

“We’re a law-abiding family and we’ve stayed a law-abiding family.”

UFC chief Dana White has similarly downplayed the claims.

“I don’t think it’s true,” he said. “Because if it was true, it would be big. Conor can walk down the street and it’s big news now. If this were true, I just have to believe it would be off-the-charts crazy.

“If it’s true, we’ll end up finding out. I can’t chase all these things around. If it’s true, we’ll get it figured out and we’ll go from there.”
