As part of an initiative to give back to society, Miss Nigeria, Ezinne Akudo has floated a charity foundation she calls ‘The Eight Foundation’ tilted towards the girl-child. This was made known at a media parley held yesterday at the new operational office of the foundation in Lekki area of Lagos. Ezinne in her welcome address noted that establishing a foundation like this has always been her topmost objective even before she entered for the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant, a brain child of Daily Times Nigeria, now published by Folio Communications Ltd, and long after she won the crown in 2013, had worked towards ensuring its emergence and functionality as her own way of rendering assistance to the girl-child. She disclosed that the ‘The Eight Foundation’ is committed towards empowering women and children across the continent and also raising general awareness on rape and sexual abuse in the society. “We at the foundation will be providing medical and social rehabilitation to female victims of sexual violence and we also hope to establish a shelter in the nearest future, called the half-way home for victims”. She said The Eight Foundation is supported by Easy Taxi who will be providing transportation services to victims from the mainland to the island, the Lagos State Office of the Public Defendants, the Mirabel Centre amongst others. Guests were taken round the different sections of the counseling rooms. Present at the unveiling were the Marketing Manager, Easy Taxi Nigeria, Fajemisin Olufemi, Chioma Nwigwe, Bobby Taylor, Ngozi Okonkwo, Bolanle Ajiboye, the Founder of the centre, Ezinne Akudo and the Director, Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi.
