Minister tasks future scientists on problem solving, nation building

Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, on Monday in Abuja, told young and future Nigerian scientists that they should see themselves as solution providers from a global perspective.

Onu said this on the occasion of the 2020 edition of the Young Scientists Presidential Award (774-YONSPA).
He told the future scientists that the Ministry attached great importance to them what they had been able to achieve academically in their various local governments and states.
He said that to encourage them for being the best in their states, those of them that would excel at the end of the examination, would be presented to President Muhammadu Buhari for recognition.
According to the Minister, this will take place at the opening ceremony of the forthcoming “Technology and Innovation Expo’’, scheduled to hold on March 16.

Onu pointed out that the 774 YONSPA initiative was a deliberate programme of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology to take science to the grassroots.
“It is to encourage the Nigerian youth to participate in Science and Technology.
“It is one of our catch them young initiatives aimed at making young Nigerians develop interest in mathematics and science,’’ he said.
He said he saw the emergence of a great nation through the young minds who had much to contribute to the nation.
