Minister claims Lagos Renewed Hope City 80 per cent completed

Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, has said that construction of the 2,000-housing unit Renewed Hope City in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, is now 80 per cent complete and will soon be inaugurated by the President.

He made the disclosure during an inspection visit to the site on Thursday in Lagos.

“The Ibeju-Lekki Renewed Hope City project is 80 per cent completed, with over 700 housing units under phase one ready for commissioning,” Dangiwa said.

According to him, the foundation laying for the second phase of the project will be carried out by President Bola Tinubu after the commissioning of the 700 completed units.

“The Lagos Renewed Hope City, when fully completed, would deliver 2,000 housing units. The project underscores the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bridging housing deficit in Nigeria,” he added.

Nigeria currently has a housing deficit estimated at 28 million units.

The Renewed Hope Cities and Estates initiative, launched in December 2023, is a federal programme designed to provide affordable housing for Nigerians through a public-private partnership model.

Its first phase targets the delivery of 100,000 housing units nationwide.

In 2024, President Tinubu approved N100 billion for the ministry in the 2023 supplementary budget and allocated a further N18.9 billion in the 2024 budget to fund the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates as well as urban and slum upgrading programmes.
