Military, 14 security agencies hold combine route March July 1

The military and 14 other security and response agencies on Thursday concluded arrangements to hold a maiden quarterly route march exercise titled ‘TOGETHER WE ARE’ on Saturday July 1 across the country.

The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Major General John Enenche, announced this in Abuja on Thursday at a press conference attended by directors of information and spokespersons of 18 security and response agencies in the country.

Enenche said the route march will hold in all state capitals and all military formations in the country. He said that the physical fitness of members of the security and response agencies is germane to the effectiveness of its members, especially in the face of contemporary security challenges in the country.

However, he dismissed insinuations while fielding questions that a huge route march of such magnitude as the one holding on Saturday were being put forward to dose tension arising from hate speeches.

Rather, he said that “group interaction through an exercise such as route march is an enhancer of espirit de corps and harmony among members of the security and response agencies.”

According to him, the route march exercise is to be conducted on quarterly basis involving the Military, Para Military and Security Responses Agencies in Nigeria.

He said that the exercise has as its main objective of “protecting lives and property, ensuring unity and progress, supporting democracy, upholding the constitution and defending national interests,” he stated.

He said the public to note that there will be movement of troops and other security agencies in the course of the exercise.

“All Nigerians are to be rest assured that; the security and response agencies in the country are always there to; protect lives and property, ensure unity and progress, support democracy, uphold the constitution and defend our national interests,” he said.
