Barcelona have a long way to go before they can celebrate their performances in 2014-15, according to star forward Lionel Messi.
The Argentine scored a sublime curled strike from the edge of the box on Wednesday as Luis Enrique’s men ran out 4-0 winners over Almeria to ensure they stayed four points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
Messi has played a huge part in Barca’s nine-game winning streak – they have only failed to win once since the first game of 2015 – but he is refusing to get carried away with their four-point lead over Real Madrid in La Liga.
“We won against Almeria, but there is still a long way to go,” the 27-year-old said. “We have to keep fighting in every match.”
Next up for Barca is an extremely testing visit to Sevilla on Saturday, with Unai Emery’s men battling for a Champions League spot as they sit behind fourth-placed Valencia in La Liga on goal difference.
