Meet Joy Grant-Ekong: Female movie producers changing the narrative

Joy Grant-Ekong is a renowned filmmaker, producer, assistant director, screenplay supervisor, and production consultant with more than 15 years of experience in the film and television industries.

She began her career in the entertainment business in 2003 by joining the Ojo Ladipo Theatre’s theatre group, whose members now make up a large portion of the veteran in the industry.

She later joined the multicamera daily soap opera “TINSEL” on M-Net, which has won numerous awards, and was soon head of the department for director’s assistants from the second to the fourth season. She hasn’t looked back since.

She has contributed her outstanding skills to a number of well-known TV shows and movies, including “Journey to Self,” “New Horizons,” MTV BASE’s award-winning drama series SHUGA (Nigeria).

She was the 3rd Assistant director on the award-winning feature length movie ‘FIFTY’ powered by Ebony life TV in 2015.

Joy has also worked as a Line producer on a number of movies, which include ‘Lunch Time Heroes’ a feature length movie directed by Seyi Babatope in 2015, the movie
‘Code Wilo’ executive produced by the Nigerian film industry veteran Femi Odugemi, a multi award-winning pioneer in the Nigerian movie industry.

And also the Line producer on the award-winning movie ‘ When love happens’, romantic comedy movie in 2014 directed by Seyi Babatope, and currently streaming on Netflix.

She was producer of ‘DECEIVED’ A Mnet TV movie, on African Magic (Powered by her company Jove Productions in 2019).

In 2017, she went on to produced her debut feature length film ‘INLINE’, directed by Tope oshin.The movie made good reviews in cinema and it’s currently streaming on Netflix.

She was the Supervising Producer in the African magic ‘TALENT FACTORY’ A Mnet Tv Film – streaming on Showmax.

She is a one of the most influential filmmakers in Nigeria.
