Mayhem in Ekiti as Hoodlums Invade APC’s Victory Dance

A victory party organized by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti yesterday turned awful as it was disrupted by gun-wielding hoodlums who destroyed five vehicles belonging to the party’s members. Also destroyed was a vehicle belonging to an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The hoodlums attacked the party’s secretariat at the Ajilosun area of the state capital, shortly after its members held a victory procession there to mark the victory of its candidate, Major Gen Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential poll.
The party’s spokesman in the state, Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, accused Governor Ayodele Fayose and the Police of complicity in the attack, saying the party had earlier got information that plan was being hatched by some top officials in the government house to prevent any celebration in the state. He accused the governor of sending those he described as members of a killer gang after the party members with intention to stall the celebration party. But Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, dismissed the claims.
Olatunbosun said it was unbelievable that hoodlums could attack the secretariat even when the Divisional Police Officer of the Ologede Police Station in Ado Ekiti and some of his men were on guard to ensure that things didn’t snowball into violence during the procession. He said that the hoodlums brandished guns, cutlasses and axes, which forced party members and passers-by to flee in different positions, to prevent being caught in the web.
He said those that perpetrated the nefarious act came in three Hilux Vans with government house number plate, who after disembarking from the vehicles shot sporadically into the secretariat and destroyed some of their property. “We had few members left when they came because some of our teeming members who held a peaceful victory procession were already leaving before they came. They shot at our secretariat. Olatunbosun named four persons as the masterminds of the alleged violence.
“We were aware that they were coming but we never knew Governor Fayose could do anything funny because of the mood of the nation. Though, we heard him boasting that he won’t allow any to mark the victory of Buhari in Ekiti State”. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, who confirmed the attack said: “We received information that APC headquarters in Ado Ekiti was being attacked and I deployed a team of police there led by Assistant Commissioner of Police. And they succeeded in flushing out the miscreants that came to carry out the act.
