MASSOB Slams FG over Indifference to Less Privileged

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), on Monday, in Onitsha, Anambra State, accused the Federal Government of marginalising the motherless babies and physically challenged persons, particularly in the South East geo-political zone.

Speaking to journalists, the organisation’s National Director of Red Cross, Engr. Osondu Okparaeke, stated that the marginalisation was part of what informed the struggle by MASSOB for a sovereign state of Biafra.

“You see, that is why we want to stay alone, as a sovereign state, instead of being with those who feel that the leadership of this country is their birthright.

“This marginalisation by the government in power and Northerners has continued to worsen the move for one united Nigeria, so it is ‘to your tents, oh Israel.’

“We have now resolve to help our own destitute, the motherless babies, physically challenged and the sick. We have been to the Orlu junction Red Cross Motherless Babies Home, Owerri, Imo State, where we donated some tubers of yam, babies’ wears and N5, 000,”Okparaeke said.

Okparaeke further stated that: “We prayed God to save them from marginalisation by the government that is supposed to bring succour to them.

He recalled that they were earlier at Anambra East and Oguta, during the era of flood disaster, where they donated relief materials and cash to the flood victims.

The Red Cross boss also disclosed that the Biafra war heroes at Oji River were abandoned in the bush until their leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike came and rehabilitated them, built self-contained apartments for each of them at Okwe, in Imo State.

Reiterating that the Red Cross would not relent in giving succor to the downtrodden, Okparaeke regretted that those at the corridors of power see the poor as cursed ones adding that: “No condition is permanent”.
