Marathon: Plateau NSCDC athletes bags first medals in 42km race

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC were proud to have their own emerged first in the just concluded Lagos Marathon held recently in Lagos.

Emmanuel Gyang and Deborah Pam who currently run for the NSCDC, were the first Nigerians to complete the grueling 42km race at the 2020 Access Bank Lagos Marathon.

Gyang and Pam who got married few years ago had trained all their lives starting from their days in secondary school to attain this enviable height.

For Gyang, who was the first male Nigerian, he finished 33rd overall with a time of 2:25.30secs, while his wife Pam who was the first female Nigerian to get to finish in her category, finished 14th in the women’s category with a time of 2:45.17secs.

In 2019, Pam received a special award for closing the gap between Nigeria and the East Africans.

However acknowledging the athletes, the Plateau State Commandant NSCDC, Dr. Solomon Olasupo, laud their performance, saying they have made the Command and the Corps proud.

Olasupo while also extending the Corps Commandant General’s appreciation, Mallam Abdullahi Muhammadu, said the headquarters of the Corps has pledged to boost the sport unit of the NSCDC with facilities for round the clock training and retraining, he said.
