MARAN refutes merger, says expelled members in rival association

Foremost journalists association in the maritime industry, Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has once again informed stakeholders that it was never in merger with any group in the sector.
Recall that the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi, in his genuine desire to forge unity and conviviality among maritime journalists, advised that the pen pushers in the maritime industry, should come together under one umbrella to enhance their professionalism and efficiency.
The various groups, especially, MARAN, welcomed the initiative of the Minister which they believed would become an enduring legacy only if it was founded on the true principles of professionalism, devoid of personal aggrandizement.
Speaking through its Executive Council, the association said its members in the supposed merger were dissenting members that have been expelled from the association for gross misconduct.
The statement reads, ’This act of deceit was even the least of our worries. What got us worried was the desperate move of the only party left in the botched merger to link the name of MARAN to the merger that never was.
‘’We find it expedient to place it on record that neither MARAN as a body nor any of its bonafide members was part of the new group.
