The New Jersey Police is currently investigating a report that rapper DMX robbed an unnamed man in Newark, New Jersey, on Easter Sunday.

While the investigation is still in its “early stages,” the police spokesman, Sergeant Ronald said that a member of the rapper’s entourage robbed a man at gunpoint at a station in Newark around 12:30 a.m.

The 21-year-old man reported that he recognized the artist, whose real name is Earl Simmons, and approached him outside the gas station at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. He said in a tatement that after a brief conversation about rap music, one of DMX’s male entourage members pulled a gun and demanded money from him.

The victim reported that after taking $3,200 in cash from his pocket, the “Party Up (Up In Here)” singer grabbed the money and took off in one of four black Cadillac Escalades. The victim continued to follow the cars, and was able to record one of the SUV’s license plates, which he reported to police.

No arrests have been made and no criminal charges have been filed yet in the case for now.

DMX is no stranger to the law. He has been arrested numerous times since breaking out on the rap scene in the early ’90s. In 2004 he was famously arrested after attempting to steal a car at New York’s Kennedy Airport, and was subsequently fined for several traffic violations.
