A 47-year-old man, Bolaji Kehinde, on Friday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for defrauding a man of N600,000.
Kehinde, whose address was not provided, is facing two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money by false pretences, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ade Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. at No 1, Era Road, Ilogbo, Ajangbadi of Lagos.
Adeosun said the defendant collected the N600,000 from the complainant, Mr Ifeanyi Samuel, on the pretence that he would make him some doors and frames, a representation he knew was false.
“The defendant converted the money to his personal use,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
It was gathered that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until March 26. (NAN)
