The Prosecutor, Jibrin Seidu, told the court that the matter was reported at Trademore Police Division on June 2 by Mary Bassey of Zone 5, Lugbe, Abuja.

Seidu said that on May 25, Bassey paid the sum of ₦75, 000 for a self-contained apartment at Lugbe into the defendant’s account.

He said that the landlady, however, refused Bassey into the house and, since then, the defendant had also refused to refund her money.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His counsel, F.O. Alumona, urged the court to grant him bail, to enable him to pay the complainant on or before August 31.

The Presiding Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of ₦75,000, with a surety in like sum.

Sadiq said that the surety must be residing within the FCT.

He then adjourned the case until August 31 for report of payment.
