Man, 29, remanded in prison for alleged attempt to murder father

An Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, remanded Jeremiah Bamidele, 29, in Agodi prison for alleged attempt to murder his father.
The accused of Bamidele’s Compound in Idi- Ayunre area, Ibadan, is facing a four -count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, demand with menace and attempt to murder.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that the accused conspired with some others still at large and committed the offences on Dec. 21, 2016 at his residence.
Ogunremi further said that the accused kidnapped his father, Mr. Olumuyiwa Bamidele and threatened to kill him if he did not give him N500, 000.
“The accused had put a cutlass to his father’s neck in an attempt to murder him before he was rescued by neighbours,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Section 320 (1) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 320 (1) prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.
The Counsel to the accused, Mr Tope Olayinka, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Abiona Richard, who refused Olayinka’s urge, remanded Bamidele at Agodi prison and ordered that the file to be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
She adjourned the case to Feb.6 for mention.
