Maku accuses Nasarawa govt of directing civil servants to sign vouchers without salary

Augustine Kuza, Lafia

A onetime gubernatorial candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA ), Mr. Labaran Maku has raised alarm that, governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, is compelling Nasararwa State civil servants to sign pay voucher without payment of salaries.

He raised the alarm while addressing newsmen at Idevi , in Obi Local Government Area of the state, said the intimidation of civil servants in the state by the Nasarawa State Government to either sign PV or risk being sack from service is suspicious.

Maku stressed that, “The government through the Head of Civil Service announced that September Salaries would be paid through table payment, meaning that civil servants would be paid as soon as they are screened by whoever is responsible for it.

“But instead of paying them at the point of the screening as it was announced by the government, the workers were compelled to sign the PVs without being paid,” he explained.

He noted that, in any table payment an accountant would be sitting there and immediately any staff is verified the accountant is directed to pay such a person.

The minister appealed to president Buhari to send an investigation panel to ascertain why workers in Nasarawa state are not paid; added that the state received bail out two times as well as Paris-club three times yet workers are yet to be cleared of their salaries.

He accused the state government for intimidating civil servants to sign so as to mislead the Federal Government that the state is not owing workers salaries.

Maku also call for an Economic State of Emergency be declare in the state since the government was unable to pay salaries despite the bailout, Paris Club Refund, Loans, Internally Generated Revenue and monthly allocations.

Maku called on “Mr. President to rescue workers in Nasarawa State from this predicament. Any allocation meant for Nasarawa state should be channeled through reliable traditional ruler in the state or should be made through committee for effective payment to workers” He added.
