The governor in a telephone interview with an FM radio station said “My very good friend and brother, Dr Muyideen Olatunji is the one in charge of the primary healthcare for Oyo State. He came to me and said, look, I am going to send to you this black seed oil, it boosts immunity. So, I mixed it with honey and took one teaspoon in the morning and one in the evening.

“So, there are local solutions to boost immunity. Our people should not fret. Just as I’ve been able to get the virus out off my system, so will it be for majority of our people. “I’ve lost a little bit of weight which I think is good. When you’re in isolation, the tendency is just to watch television and eat, I was eating amala. But I was also using the treadmill. It has also been a period to reflect and look at the programmes, policies and the things we want to do for the people of Oyo state and also reflect on how the COVID-19 is going to affect us socially and economically.”

“Two days ago the task force meeting, the Head of Service told me that the conditional cash transfer from the Federal Government would be N20, 000 to people in 10 local government areas of Oyo State and I said, it’s good, but this predates this administration and I’ve never been impressed for one day about the way they identified the poorest and  the impact. “They’ve been making noise in the newspapers that they have some items for us. So, I sent the people at the liaison office. First day the Nigerian Governors’ Forums’ meeting, I was told those items were taken to liaison offices. So, I called the liaison office in Abuja and asked, did you receive anything, but they said no.”

“We are all in an uncharted territory so we may not be 100 percent perfect but I want you to continue to give us your support because we are here to work for you and we are here to ensure that no life is lost to this pandemic. Our measures are all work in progress. So, where we see any need for improvement, we will work on improvement.

“Let us keep observing social distancing, good hygiene practices. They told me that the virus itself is fearful such that washing of hands with soap and water destroys the virus.

“Some jobless people have been talking about who I should hand over to whether it should be a Professor of Virology. I am not a Professor of Virology myself. When the experts speak, the people in positions of leadership only need commonsense. They have a room there where they cross pollinate ideas, discuss and challenge themselves and come up with the best course of action,”

“We have been very deliberate in not directing a total lockdown until palliatives are in place. A major challenge for us is the fact that we need to cut out the middlemen, and we also have to ensure that those who actually need the palliatives are those who get the palliatives,”

Recall that Makinde on March 30 through his twitter handle confirmed that he tested positive for coronavirus and went into self-isolation.

The governor revealed this in a statement on his verified Twitter handle on Monday where he disclosed that he is asymptomatic.

“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result, it is positive, I am asymptomatic and will continue to self isolate,” he said.

Makinde’s second test on Sunday night was negative Makinde in his tweet thanked the people of the state for their prayers during the period.

“I am deeply moved by your prayers and support throughout this period. I am so thankful.

” This evening, I received my second negative test result for COVID-19.

“I especially thank Prof. Temitope Alonge who acted in my stead as Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force,” he said in his tweet.

Also the residents of Oyo State have been implored to refrain from panic caused by uncoordinated and unconfirmed information on the COVID-19.

Mrs Omolara Esan, the State Director, Federal Ministry of Information, Ibadan Centre, gave the advice in a statement.

She said that unnecessary panic as a result of  COVID-19 could cause high blood pressure, domestic accidents and untimely death through abuse and misuse of unauthorised drugs.

“It would be recalled that human transmission of the virus occurred in Wuhan, China in December, 2019 and till date the mortality rate has been kept at three per cent globally with Nigeria having 0.02 per cent.

“Therefore, it is noticeable that with strict compliance to the rules and regulations set out by the Federal Government to curtail the spread of this virus, lives of the public are generally safe,” she said.

Esan said that COVID-19 was a battle to be won by all and should not be seen as death sentence for victims considering the number of those who had recovered so far in the country.

She urged residents to adhere strictly to government’s instructions and guidelines to avoid getting infected.

Esan said some of the guidelines were frequent hand washing with soap, use of hand sanitiser, social distancing and use of face masks.
