As the Christian residents of Oyo State join their counterparts across the globe to celebrate the annual Easter festival, they have been charged to let the reason and the purpose for which Jesus Christ came to the world, died and resurrected reflect in their relation with one another.
This charge was made yesterday by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Seyi Makinde in a statement issued by the Media Director of his campaign organization, Wale Adele and made available to journalists in Ibadan.
Makinde, who remarked that the love of God for mankind informed the sending into this world His only begotten son, who also surrendered His live for the sake of the people stated that they would justify the death of Jesus Christ on the calvary by showing love to one another.
According to him, “the reason for the season is that of love that cannot be quantified and with love of one another, a lot of problems will not even arise at all, that’s why I’m charging all of us to use this season to look back and mend our ways.
“As a politician and governorship candidate in this year’s election, I have promised to rededicated my life into giving the state a quality service based on love, affection and compassion and I’m requesting all the citizens to gear up and prepare for new but positive direction in governance”, he said.
The governorship candidate urged the people to use the Saturday election to usher in a government of progressivism in the true sense of it under his party, SDP, assuring that true to his campaign slogan of ‘fresh water’ new season (omi Titun, igba otun) , the state would surely experience a new and positive dawn.
Makinde also used the occasion to call on the people to disregard rumours making the rounds that he was stepping down for any of the candidates, stressing that his coming into the contest was not a joke and that having gone as far, there was no way he could abandon the struggle.
