Magaji reaffirms commitment to stronger, equitable healthcare system
The Chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services, Amos Gwamna Magaji has reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system and ensuring that every citizen has access to quality, affordable, and equitable health services.
Speaking at a public hearing organised by the Committee in Abuja on Wednesday, Magaji described the session as a vital step toward inclusive and transparent lawmaking in the health sector.
He said the public hearing was convened to deliberate on seven proposed healthcare related bills currently before the House, stressing that such engagements are “the lifeblood of democratic governance.”
“Public hearings such as this are not mere formalities; they are the heartbeat of participatory democracy. They allow us to listen, learn, and legislate with clarity and compassion,” Magaji stated.
He urged health professionals, civil society representatives, community leaders, and concerned citizens to speak freely and offer constructive input that would enrich the legislative process.
According to him, the Committee is determined to craft laws that are both technically sound and socially responsive, reflecting the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
Magaji commended stakeholders for their continued partnership and commitment to improving public health outcomes, adding that the National Assembly will continue to work toward achieving universal health coverage.
“Together, let us build a healthcare system that embodies the dignity, resilience, and aspirations of our people,” he said.
The public hearing drew participation from key players across the healthcare sector, including medical associations, civil society groups, and policy experts.
