LP names Usman chairman, Nkwocha Secretary

In a bid to reposition ahead of the 2027 general election, the Labour Party (LP) on Friday confirmed former Minister of Finance, as Interim National Chairman.
The party as well named Senator Darlington Nwokocha, former Senate deputy minority leader as National Secretary in interim capacity.
Ratification of the two national officers were made on Friday at the LP National Executive Council (NEC) meeting summoned by statutory NEC members.
The meeting was said to have been summoned in respect of the Supreme Court decision on April 4, 2025, which terminated the tenure of Barr. Julius Abure.
This was confirmed in a communique read after the meeting.

The parry leadership asked both Usman and Nwokocha, to hold forth in interim capacities pending the conduct of congresses and a national convention to elect substantive officers
The jointly signed communique was endorsed by various stakeholders of the such as Giv. Alex Otti and his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, Chief S.O.Z. Ejiofor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), alongside Alhaji Salisu Mohammed, Secretary of the BoT.
Others President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, Comrade Deborah Yusuf, the NLC National Woman Leader; Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja (mni), the NLC General Secretary; Comrade General N.A. Toro Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC); and Comrade Engr. Festus Osifo, President of the TUC, all representing the labour movement.
