Lockdown: Police prosecute 204 violators in Niger

About 204 persons who violated the stay at how order have been prosecuted by the Niger state Police Command.

The offenders were prosecuted at the Minna Mobile Court for violation of COVID-19 order 2020 of the state government.
Their offences range from driving vehicles during the period of lockdown, organising social events/gathering, lack of wearing face masks, conveying passengers during lockdown and carrying more than the prescribed numbers of passengers required during window period.

The command arrested 216 persons and charged to court, out of which 204 persons were convicted and awarded punishment ranging from six months imprisonment or fine of N3, 000 for motorcyclists/tricyclists and N5, 000 for vehicle drivers, while 12 persons were discharged
The police commissioner enjoined members of the public to continue to be law- abiding and ensure further compliance in the interest of public safety, and should see the measure as a means to curb the spread of COVID-19 and to protect life and property in the state.
