Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric, has slammed those calling for his arrest because of his talks with bandits with the Nigerian government.
He claimed that both the governors of Kaduna and Zamfara states were involved in holding bandit meetings.
While revealing that government officials are present at his meetings with criminals, he referred to those calling for his arrest as clowns.
Gumi told the Daily Post that he isn’t the first person to have conversations with bandits.
“Even the governor of Kaduna State and the governor of Zamfara State met with them,” he said.
“I’m not the first person to engage them in conversation” (bandits). I only added value, and I consider them religious; religion is the only thing that teaches you the sanctity of blood. So that’s the religious perspective.
“I’m attempting to gather them and teach them that life is sacred.” They are unable to murder, rape, or commit other crimes. This is the addition I’m hoping will be successful. Note that I never visited these bandits without the presence of a government official, but they are present.
“All of the bandits we encountered were accompanied by government officials, which is why I called those calling for my arrest clowns.”
He went on to say that his negotiations with the bandits had begun to yield positive results.

“My encounters with bandits have yielded immediate results. If you approach someone involved in criminal activity as a police officer, you will have a problem, but if you approach him as a pastor, he will confess all of his sins to you.
“As a result, we approach them as clergy, and they feel free to air their grievances. As a result, we consider how we can appease and assist them.
“We’re approaching them from a spiritual standpoint, not as an authority. Every human being, you know, has that spiritual influence, and that’s why we’re adopting it,” he explained.
