LG boss advises new councilors to shun corruption

Hajiya Jamila Sarki, Chairman, Interim Management Committee (IMC), Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, has advised the newly sworn-in councilors of the council, to shun corruption and other sharp practices.
Sarki gave the advice at the swearing-in ceremony of the new members of the interim management committee in Garaku, headquarters of the local government area.
The council boss urged the IMC members to be transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties for the overall development of the area.
She said it was imperative to ensure prudent management of resources so that projects in the area would be executed to better the lives of the people.
“I want you all to be prudent, transparent and accountable in the discharge of your duties in order to justify your appointment by Gov. Tanko Al-Makura
“Transparency and accountability should be your watch word because corruption, injustice among others social evils have affected our lives and the socio-economic development of the country negatively.
“Nigerians must do away with sentiments, corruption, injustice, abuse of office, among other social ills, for the overall development of the country,” Sarki said.
The chairman said that the IMC members must key into the policies and programmes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) so as to improve the living standard of the people.
She also warned members of staff of the council to shun absenteeism from duty and ensure optimal productivity.
Sarki solicited the support of the people in order for the IMC to succeed in the task ahead of it.
The IMC chairman enjoined the people of the area to be law-abiding, respect constituted authorities and to live in peace, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
Responding on behalf of other councilors, Mr.Osu Kaika Umar, representing Agwada Ward, thanked Gov. Al-Makura, for the appointment and promised that they will discharge their duties with the fear of God. (NAN)
