LASU celebrates two principal officers

Lagos State University (LASU) recently honoured two of its principal officers – the immediate past Chief Medical Director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja Prof. David Oke and the new Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo. Welcoming guests at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lanrewaju Fagbohun, stated emphatically that LASU that was despised in the past has now become a sought after. He said the two CMDs are great people who have played a great role in the life of project LASU and the new CMD will play his role. He told Prof. Oke that wherever he is, he should continue to support LASU and LASU will continue to connect with him while thanking him for all his contributions to the university. The Vice Chancellor described the new CMD, Prof. Fabamwo, as cerebral, a man well connected and asked him to use his wealth of experience to achieve greatness for LASUTH. He said the road may be rough but believes he would surmount all the challenges. In his response, the former CMD, Prof. Oke described the Vice Chancellor as a brother and colleague. He also called him a gentle man and thanked him for the honour which he said took him by a surprise. He also appreciated the other principal officers – the Provost, LASUCOM team and LASUTH. And to his wife of 30 years, he said a big thank you for tolerating him this far. To the new CMD, Prof. Fabamwo, the LASU VC confessed that he prayed that he should be the new CMD because of his carriage, mien, Queen’s English. He added that as at now, there is no person better for the job than Prof. Fabamwo. “I am confident that he would make a success of the appointment”, he said. The new CMD thanked those who believed in him in taking the job as well as the confidence the VC has in him. Fabamwo stated that he knows the nooks and crannies of LASUTH very well, stressing that it is a place he has traversed for 32 years. He applauded the giant strides of the former CMD, Prof. Oke made at LASUTH and said he hopes to match and surpass the successes he made at the place. He thanked all for taking time out to grace the event and described the team left behind by the former CMD as an excellent one and believe they will still carry on the good job. Speaking further, he told the gathering that he has assured the Provost, LASUCOM that between LASUTH and LASUCOM, it would be a seamless effort, saying the two will work like a Siamese twins. “At this point in time, we have a progressive Vice Chancellor – Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun in- charge and I can see that in the near future good tidings are coming”, he said. He remarked that the hallmark of any great man is to balance work life, family and social life, saying this helps to see life from a good perspective.
