The Lagos State Taskforce have recovered a Dane-Gun, wraps of illicit drugs and arrested three persons during the demolition of over 2500 structures under high tension cables suspected to be criminal hideouts in the Ijaiye, Ojokoro and Bode Thomas areas of the state.

The operation which was carried out over the weekend followed the mandate of the state governor, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the removal of illegal structures across the state especially those under high tension cables, and the subsequent directive of the State Commissioner of Police, Acting CP Edgal Imohimi for the Agency to get rid of all criminal hideouts.

It was gathered that the three persons arrested – Mr. Saka Lawal, Mrs Tawa Lawal and Miss. Kausara Saka – were from one family and were arrested at the Bode Thomas area of Surulere in connection with the recovered Dane-Gun.

According to the Chairman of the Agency, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, who led the demolition exercise, ” well over 2500 illegal structures and containers were demolished with the recovery of a ‘Dane-gun’ from the Bode Thomas, Surulere wing of the operations and wraps of substances suspected to be indian hemp also recovered from Powerline Street at Ijaiye under Ojokoro Local Government.”

The Chairman disclosed that before the Agency embarked on the demolition exercise all owners and occupiers of the over 2500 demolished illegal structures were served with ‘Removal Order’ notice by the government.

Speaking on the importance of the exercise, Egbeyemi stated that ‘Radiation’ from the high tension cables posed serious danger to human health and that no responsible and responsive government would put the lives of her citizens at risks.

He said, ” the demolished structures were an eye sore where miscreants and hoodlums freely smoked Indian hemp. Prostitution by under aged boys and girls also thrived in such areas.”

Further revelation by the Chairman has it that the raid of a notorious hideout used by the dreaded ‘Adura Boys’ who have been terrorising Powerline Street and other suburbs of Ijaiye in Ojokoro led to the recovery of other harmful drugs such as Tramadol-200 Super, Tramadol Capsules RG11 and Analgin Injection 500mg.

He stated that members of this dreaded notorious cult group had robbed innocent citizens of their money and valuable items such as phones, wallets and pieces of jewellery.

Similarly, the Chairman also advised landlords, CDAs, traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders to stop allocating lands indiscriminately and collecting money from innocent citizens in order to erect illegal structures under high tension cables as anyone caught would be arrested and charge to court.

He also enjoined members of the public living or engaging in trading activities under high tension cables across the state to vacate and remove their properties immediately.

It was learnt that the suspects have been transfered to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Command on the directive of the Commissioner of Police.
