LASG Initiatives Deepen Understanding of Science Subjects in Schools
Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Science and Technology has organized various science-focused initiatives to deepen the understanding of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects amongst primary and secondary schools’ pupils in the state.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Adebiyi Mabadeje, who stated this today at a Ministerial Press Briefing to mark the Second Term, Fourth Year in Office of Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN), at the Bagauda Khalto Press Centre Alausa, Ikeja, noted that the basic objective is to get primary and secondary school pupils interested in the STEM subjects at an early age.
Mabadeje said that the present administration has established over 120 ICT laboratories in public schools to enable the students gain first hand practical experience on STEM subjects using computers/tablets that are internet enabled.
Speaking further on the achievements of his Ministry, the Commissioner said the Babatunde Fashola led administration has also used ICT as a leverage to strengthen its e-governance capabilities in order to serve the residents of the state in a convenient, efficient and transparent way.
According to him, “This is largely based on our investment in the Oracle ERP platform where we collect, store and manage all aspect of our budget, revenue, payments, inventory and Human Resources data”, adding that “we are constantly making our services more available electronically to Lagosians via the official website – www.lagosstate.gov.ng as such, it was not a surprise that Lagos was used as a pilot state by the CBN to promote its cashless society initiative”.
He declared that the State government is in the process of collecting the biometric data of all Lagos residents through the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), noting that the exercise will enable the State to have an accurate data on Lagosians as well as help in effective deployment of resources to serve Lagosians.
